Teaching in Sammamish...a new chapter 12/10/2011
I will be teaching at Spinderella Sammamish starting in December. Classes will continue to be held on Wednesdays at 7:30pm. The owner, Marisa Oka is positive and a wonderfully supportive person. I am looking forward to sharing the space with her. Her approach to pole is similar yet very different from my own. I celebrate the collaborative effort we bring to the classroom together and variety of style and curriculum the studio space can now offer to the students. This new chapter will also allow me to focus more on my other great love of pole, my passion to perform. I believe that Aerial Pole is making its way into many venues and being taken more seriously as a performance based art. I plan to creatively contribute to this movement as much as possible. Thank you! Mary Ellyn Weissman owner and founder of Empowerment through Exotic Dance in Chicago created a new kind of pole competition that is schedule for August 26th 2011. It will consist of three divisions: Elite, Rookie and Masters. The most notable and I think the most historic for women everywhere is the Masters Division. Open to all dancers regardless of their months or years of experience. No limits to the type and skill level of moves allowed. Dancer must be 40 years old and over. This is groundbreaking to the pole community and demonstrates that there are a great deal women who are trained, dedicated and absolutely incredible on and off the pole athletically. This is a venue and which they can recognized. It is long overdue. The Masters finalists are truly an inspiration to all women and a reminder that regardless of age women can achieve the body they want and own it! I also would like to congratulate local Masters Finalist and personal pole inspiration to me, Noelle Wood! The Midwest Pole Dance Competition Pole Party Benefit to Fight Cancer in Alaska 05/07/2011

Lady Pol(ar)s of the North 12/07/2010
![]() I had the opportunity to teach a couple of classes at Bekha's Dance Expressions in Anchorage, Alaska over the past weekend. It was my second visit up north to teach pole. Bekha recently changed locations and now has two poles in her studio. She averages 7-10 ladies a class which takes place on Friday evenings. This girl is a busy lady and the lead instructor, Kara, has her hands full. Pole Dance is fast growing in Alaska and the ladies of the north are discovering the physical and spiritual benefits of the sport. I feel privileged that Pole Fitness Seattle has been able to play a role in teaching workshops and guest instructing in the city of Anchorage. ![]() The girls have advanced so much since my last visit in June and amazed me with their determination to nail new moves like the beloved knee hold and my new favorite the twisted grip. In the first class the students learned the signature Pole Fitness Seattle warm up and spent time learning floor work and fundamental spins. The second class worked on spin combinations, inversion progressions and climbing. These ladies kicked butt and are rockstar strength builders. They didn't even brake a sweat with ten pole crunches on each side! I can't wait for the next time. | AuthorPole Fitness Seattle Blog ArchivesDecember 2011 CategoriesAll |
