Next up, we're featuring student, Christa!
When did you start pole dancing?
I started a year ago with signing up for the beginner series with Yael but have been going more consistent within the past six months.
Favorite part about pole dancing?
Do I only get to choose one? ☺
My favorite part about pole dancing is that you can make it your own.
Instructors will teach the fundamentals but I admire the opportunities for interpretation. I love to shake what my mama gave me so I usually sneak in some booty shaking when I’m freestyling. Eventually, you just do whatever movement comes natural!
When did you first come to Pole Fitness Seattle?
My one and only studio has been PFS and I feel right at home.
I put a lot of pressure on myself to get it right on the first try so I often become frustrated with myself for being a ‘slow learner’.
Although, I do get over it very quickly with the amount of support received from everyone at the studio. We’re always cheering each other on! ☺
Favorite class(es) to take at the studio?
Floorwork! Floorwork! Floorwork! ☺
What I love about floorwork (or any of the classes) is that no class is ever the same! Floorwork allows me to express myself through dance and experiment with the many different ways I can move my body (and booty!)
Favorite songs to dance to?
Anything that makes me want to shake it!
Current Favorites are:
….and so much more!
What are your pole necessities?
My 7-inch heels, a bottle of dry hands and my Mika cheeky bottoms!
Favorite pole move?
Baby Angel. I tend to overthink it too much.
What do you enjoy outside of pole? (Yoga, reading, work, hiking, etc.)
I spend almost all of my time with my dog, Meeko! We love walking to the coffee shop for a pup-a-ccino and snuggling up together to watch movies.
I’m also a huge fan of food trucks (and carts – thanks, Portland!) and am on the mission in finding the best food truck in Seattle! My favorite has been Rose City Waffles in Portland – I highly recommend THE BIG MONTY! ☺
Whether you’re a local or new in town, what is your favorite part about Seattle?
I grew up in the greater Seattle area and have lived in downtown for the past few years. I love just about everything about Seattle – it’s wet, quirky, and adventurous.
Surprisingly the rain doesn’t bother me and is one of the things I love about Seattle. There’s just something about cozying up inside on a rainy day.
Favorite food? Favorite place to eat in Seattle? Etc.
Food Trucks! Food Trucks! Food Trucks! They all offer something different and a unique spin on flavor and ingredients.
Biggest accomplishment for yourself this year at the PFS studio.
Hands down – my first ever performance.
This past December I put on my 7-inch heels and danced to a Burlesque chair routine in a group of 3 to Beyonce’s “Formation”. We SLAYED the performance but I was really hesitant to sign up as I didn’t think I had it in me to perform – not to mention in fishnets and cheeky shorts!
Thank you, Cynthia, for encouraging me to take the workshop class to prep and then go on to perform our routine in front of a live audience!
How have you grown as a student this past year?
I’ve become more confident, most definitely.
I’ve never been ashamed of my body, but as a curvier woman I believe it forces you to be more aware of your body and how it looks when you move. I now find myself looking into ways that I can customize a move to fit more to my style and the way I move my body.
I’ve also gotten much more flexible and stronger, too! Do you even lift, bro? ☺
Favorite thing about the PFS studio?
The students and instructors really help make it a place where you want to be. Everyone is very supportive as we are all on our own individual pole journeys but we wouldn’t be able to grow and learn without each other. There’s nothing but good vibes only!
Thank you for sharing Christa! We loved your performance in the group chair routine!
