Next up in the competition blog series is another instructor who is competing, Annalisa! Annalisa has been an instructor at PFS for almost a year now and teaches both pole and lyra classes.
Read more about her pole competition journey below.
Background: How long have you been pole dancing and when did you first come to PFS?I took my first pole class two years ago at PFS and got addicted.
What made you decide to compete?
I decided to compete this year as a way to mark a milestone in my pole journey. I’ve learned a lot about myself and my ability throughout this journey. I’ve achieved many “pole goals”, gained incredible strength, and have grown so much as a dancer.
Can you share a little bit about your piece? What inspired you, song choice, costume choice, choreography, style, etc.
“Stay” by: Ember Island - My piece is an interpretation of my journey in growing as a dancer. This song is about letting go and allowing yourself to embrace the moment, which was my biggest challenge—because I fear vulnerability. I’ve let go of this fear and have embraced the art of self-expression.
What has been the been the biggest challenge for you in creating this piece?
The biggest challenge for me in creating this piece was finding the right movements to tell a story. I would flow to help me get in the zone and explore movements before working on my routine
What has been the best part of this process?
The best part about this process is jotting down ideas for my routine and bedazzling my costume!
What are you looking forward to the most after competition is over?
I’m excited to get back to learning new pole tricks, and spend more time doing lyra.
Annalisa will be competing on Sunday, November 5th at 8:50am in the Dramatic Level 3 Senior event.
