Our next post features another student, Christa! Check out her incredible pole journey and road to competition below!
Background: How long have you been pole dancing and when did you first come to PFS?
I started pole dancing at PFS about 1 year ago.
What made you decide to compete?
This past year has been an incredible year for me, in terms of growth.
Pole Dancing has allowed me to not only express myself but has also been a really kick-ass workout for me, as well! Losing 70 lbs this past year has made me feel more confident and I wanted to set a new goal for myself on my pole journey.
I knew that to push myself I needed to be training and working towards something. Signing up for competition was the next stop on my journey and to showcase my progress.
Can you share a little bit about your piece? What inspired you, song choice, costume choice, choreography, style, etc.
I am competing in the exotic category, level 1- Junior. My piece is very…spicy! I wanted it to be explosive, fun, sexy and show off my confidence in my body and my skills. It incorporates a lot of booty, which shaking it is my specialty....I consider it my secret weapon. 😊
Before settling on my song, I was playing around with two other songs, but they were both missing something. It wasn’t until Candance, one of our instructors, played my song during class and told me “I really wish you would do this for your competition song” and the rest is history. I could envision my entire performance based on the song including costume choice and choreography.
All I can say is my performance is going to be LIT.
What has been the been the biggest challenge for you in creating this piece?
One of my biggest challenges was just getting started.
At first, I feared my song. I didn’t want to play it and didn’t want to dance around to it. I just didn’t want to do anything with it. It wasn’t until before my private session with Ashlee that I felt inspired to dance to it. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to come up with my own choreography but with guidance I’ve been able to navigate through the choreo and clean it up so it is stage ready!
What has been the best part of this process?
One thing I’ve really enjoyed from this process has been learning how to rhinestone. (Thanks, Maggie!) Now, all I want to do is rhinestone and am looking forward to seeing my costume all blinged out.
I’m also thankful for all the support I have received from my friends, family, boyfriend, pole instructors and fellow pole students. It is a warm feeling knowing I have this incredible support system behind me and will be cheering me on while I’m rockin’ it on stage!
What are you looking forward to the most after competition is over?
A little bit of rest, then back to it! This won’t be my last year competing and I am looking forward to growing my skills over this next year and can’t wait to start inverting!
Christa will be competing on Sunday, November 5th at 1:10pm in the Exotic Level 1 Junior/Senior category.
